The National Identity Crisis
What nationality are you? Can you identify
yourself? With all of the mixing, merging, conquering and destroying,
migrating, captivity and slavery, it’s difficult for most people to answer
these questions. But with some tedious and diligent research, you might be able
to get a plausible answer. This work is still in progress. Now, I am taking
time out to research my heritage. I'm still struggling to find my great-great
grandparents, but I have not given up trying.
I'm back! While absent, I believe that I have discovered a plausible idea of my heritage. Basically, I'm a descendant of Adam and Eve, (as is all humanity) and it appears that I am a mixture of; the Canaanites, the British Isles, the Caribbean Islands, and the Ishmaelite. In other words, I'm a combination of the descendants of Ishmael and Isaac, who are still at odds with each other. This is how I arrived at this conclusion.
The origin of the surname Cannon can be traced to the United Kingdom, and one of the plausible explanations, is that it refers to the land of Canaan. Now, the British, in their quest to expand their empires, some of them wound up in the Caribbean Islands. During this colonization, some of the colonizers married, and others sired children with the natives.
While searching the census, it appears that my comfortably assumed, paternal Great-Great Grandfather was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, and migrated with his father to Darlington South Carolina in the late 18th Century. He married his first wife, from Robeson county NC, with Scot-Irish ancestry. They produced children of different colors, and my Great Grandfather is reasonably assumed to be one of them, due to oral history, and how the inheritance was passed down.
In 1843, Great-Great Grandpa willed some of the property to a second, wife, which brought a young daughter with her, from a previously deceased husband. In the 1850 census, I found that my Great Grandpa was married to this stepsister, and they, (with five children) and his Stepmother, were on the census as owners.
Now, as time passes, this Great Grandfather, after raising two known families, one assumed family, and children with at least one or more assumed partners, married my great Grandmother at age 60, just like my daddy said. I remember my father telling me that; someone had asked my Great Grandfather if he thought that he could have more children at age sixty. It is evident that he did. Now, my Great Grandmother's parents were from Jamaica, and that explains why many people, (even Jamaicans) often asks me if I am Jamaican.
I'm still researching, and when I think that I've got it about right, I will get a DNA test, just to see the results.
One final note: I'm also seeing that the world is becoming more confused, (on a daily basis) about our purpose here in this incubator which we are constantly ruining. It appears that we are mocking our creators, willingly and ignorantly assuming that we know (better than the creators) how to establish proper families, equitable laws, and a sustaining environment, in love, peace, and joy. This is prophecy, and it will eventually come to the end, at the new beginning!
This is just a brief overview of how I perceive the world today. Don't be dismayed if you don't get it. I may be suffering from an illusion of grandeur. I was born under veil, and have been marching to a different drummer all of my life. I'm not trying to infer that I have been a saint all of my life, because I have been contaminated by Satan's influences just as the whole world, so we must all struggle to overcome those influences and maintain our inhibitions. So to you young adults, don't "come of the chain" when you get to college, or while serving your country. Use your head and remember what good advice and teachings that you received at home.
I will be editing, and adding more to this site as I get a better perspective of this ever changing world we live in.
So long for now. May the Gods soon! Rescue us from this path, NO, this super highway to self-destruction.
When I return, I will start writing some very intriguing findings about my family history.
